Stu – S14 200sx

Ben (TOPO) – R33gts skyline; Drift prepared

TJ- S14 ; Drift Prepared

We set off in convoy at about 8am with stu not far behind. Traffic was bad but tj was already showing us his drifting skills (im sure it wasnt deliberate, probably just due to his welded diff and lead laden right boot lol). It took ages to get there because of the rush hour traffic. We finally got in and setup by about 11am, the weather was really good and I could already taste the rubber (no innuendo jokes please! lol!)
The drifting area was laid out all the way down the left hand side of the drag strip (as you are facing up the track). There were two figure of 8 play pens, 2 intermediate drift tracks which were kidney shaped and then the top large top track 3rd gear circuit which was an official British Drift Championship layout which was much larger and more open which was kidney shaped with a dog leg kink in the main back fast section of the track. The cars ranged from some proper tramp drifters like the blue 340 GL ;
And the red 320 BMW, up to official BDC drift cars!
Most popular was definitely the S14, although the most beautiful had to be the orange driftworks stickerd up S15. And for old skool the blue MK1 Escort was very easy on the eye!
After prepping the cars, changing wheels and being briefed, TJ and TOPO went straight for the main track and were going for it straight away, both collecting some minor damage in the first couple of hours, both laughing everytime!

As they continued to tear up the top track myself and stu had some practice on the intermediate tracks, just getting used to skidding the car again as we have only had one small practice session at pod! We spent a lot of the day here as there were little q’s to get on and it was very helpful in learning to transfer the weight ( see drift video jody 4 on maxxd.tv if you want to see what I mean! ).
Once we had mastered this (well not really, but f ‘it!) it was time to move on to the big track. At this point I should mention that I have fried a good set of rears and stu has exploded one of his tires, which slapped some nice rubber tan down the side of his fresh paint, sure didn’t stop him though! So I decided to change tires,
which was the only real downside to the event because there we 50 drifters there and only one guy changing tire (very nice bloke though and he did work as fast as he could)!!
Occasionally TJ would take some time out of drifting to help. This being said, the poor bloke was still swamped and it took me over an hour to wait to get two rear tires changed which took a big chunk out of my afternoon. Having done this I finally managed to get some practice on the big drift track, which was awesome (big track is on maxxd.tv Jody drift 5, ).
Both myself and Stu suffered a little on the day by having standard suspension (look at the body roll on the vids and pics, me and stu really need to sort that!) and open diffs (also don’t know about u Stu but my seat doesn’t hold me in very well, bucket soon me thinks!!). Despite this all our cars worked great and held out fine, everybody was very friendly in the pit area. Don’t think it’s just for lads too, I saw some women drifters and some of them were giving the lads a run for their money too!(see below!!)

All in all it was a good day, their was a small canteen charging standard rip off pod prices, general amenities plus the free use of an airline. Also if you really are a beginner drift tuition is provided free of charge. Great day, big thanks to TJ and TOPO great set of lads and very good drifters. Also must make a mention to the Estate BMW ‘Gipo Drifters’, great bunch of lads!

Roll on the next one (14th May, 2008, DMYB POD).
